What’s coming to California Adventure

It might be old news that Disney’s California Adventure is receiving a major makeover, I thought I would share a link to a new website Disney has launched in order to show you what all is ahead for the park.cars2

Back in 2007, Disney announced a $1.1 billion dollar investment in “re-imagineering” the park. This investment included re-theming existing attractions, building new attractions, and rebranding the park to appeal to a wider audience. Considering the initial budget for the park was $600 million, it’s safe to say that Disney is serious about turning the park around for the better.

The entrance of the park, formerly known as Walt Disney Plaza, will become Buena Vista Street. It will recreate the classic “mainstreet” of Los Angeles in the 1920’s. The area will feature red “trollies” that will transport guests around, providing a great view of the street. The shops and restaurants along the street will also be revamped. But the focus of the street will be a recreated Carthay Circle Theater, which was the theater that was home to the premiere of Snow White.

Paradise Pier will keep its name, but will become more Victorian. Several of the new attractions of Paradise Pier have already opened, including Toy Story Midway Mania, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, and the boardwalk midway games. The Orange Stinger ride will become Silly Symphony Swings. Mullholland Madness will be rethemed to Goofy’s Sky Skool. The Little Mermaid: Aeriel’s Adventure will open in 2011 to coincide with the park’s tenth anniversary. Walt Disney’s World of Color will take place in the lagoon of Paradise Pier.

The Golden State and Hollywood Pictures Backlot will receive upgrades but the park’s biggest “upgrade” will be the addition of Cars Land. The entirely new area will feature three attractions: two flat rides and one major E-ticket attraction… Radiator Springs Racers. With a cost of $200 million, the ride is sure to become the centerpiece of Cars Land.

It will be interesting to see all of these new attractions come to life over the next few years!
