2012… the coaster?

In continuing my posts on movies that could be turned into coasters, I recently saw the trailer for the upcoming movie 2012. If you haven’t heard of the year 2012, it is predicted by some ancient Mayan civilization stuff that on December 21st or 23rd, the world will end. Now that a movie has been planned about the subject, it must be real, right? Whether you believe it or not, I have a feeling Y2K will seem light compared to the chaos that will erupt around this time. You can see the trailer for 2012 here.

Now here’s a slightly warped idea… what about an end-of-the-word coaster? I could see Universal as being the only one open to an idea of an apocalyptic coaster ride. Think about it: the ride could debut in the early part of 2012, and would take riders through scenes much like those in the movie trailer: earthquakes, floods, fires – basically everything Universal studios has already created attractions around. While it could put a damper on the rest of your day… think of the marketing possibilities: “Ride the end of the world!” or “Experience the end of humanity!”. I think it’s a stretch, but if it came to fruition I believe it would be a highly controversial ride.

So what do you think? Would a 2012 coaster ever work? What would happen if nothing happens on 2012? Post your comments!
